Q: What is a V.R.C.?
A: V.R.C. is a Volunteer Reception Center dedicated to the citizens of Hernando County. The purpose of this initiative is to help ensure the readiness of the community to manage un-affiliated volunteers in the aftermath of disaster through community collaboration, planning, training and exercising of emergency procedures. The program was designed to build new alliances between volunteer managers and a variety of emergency management, first responder and community organizations. 

United Way of Hernando County has an ongoing database of citizens who can be called upon in case of ANY disaster. We will match people to needs. If you are in the medical field, construction, transportation, communication, labor force, food service, security, counseling fields, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!  In other words, we need EVERYONE'S HELP!
Hernando County will be better prepared to lighten EVERYONE'S burden in stressful times, if you are a part of the V.R.C.!


Q: Where is the V.R.C. located?
A: This location has not been determined as yet, since we are not in an Emergency situation. However, it will be posted a few days PRIOR to the emergency/disaster (hurricane).  Come back to this page for more information as to the location of the V.R.C.! 


Q: After the emergency, what if I don't have electricity and can't use my computer?
A: Call the United Way's 2-1-1 HELPLINE or 1-800-790-7770!


Q: As a Volunteer for the VRC, what should I bring to the VRC?
A: Make sure you are comfortable during your volunteer hours. The following items are suggestions for your "personal volunteer emergency kit": snacks, drinks, toilet tissue, bug spray, flashlight, radio, extra batteries, soap, lawn chair, any personal medications needed. Remember this kit is for you personally in order to keep you working comfortably during this time of need the VRC.
